# Export, freeze or delete a site

Download a copy of your site, pause everything on it, or close it. This page covers the Data, Danger zone and Plan tabs of a site's settings.

## Find the tabs

Open your site, then click Settings. The site tabs are People & agents, Safety, Integrations, Notifications, Plan, Data and Danger zone. This page covers three of them. For the rest, read [Invite your team](/docs/team), [Holds](/docs/holds) and [Choose your emails](/docs/notifications).

## Export your site's data

1. Open Settings, then Data.
2. Under Export site data, click Prepare the zip.
3. Wait. The button reads Preparing the zip.
4. Click Download zip.

You should see: a line that says the zip is ready and when its link stops working. The link lasts 30 days. Only the owner can export a site. Other people see "Only the owner can export this site."

## See how long history is kept

The Data tab also shows Retention: your plan, how many days of History Hawl keeps, and how many days of Reports. A plan that keeps everything reads "kept". The numbers are on [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

## Freeze a site

Freezing stops every agent on the site from sending until you unfreeze it. Nothing is deleted.

1. Open Settings, then Danger zone.
2. Click Freeze site.
3. Confirm it's you if Hawl asks. See [Sign in and keep your account safe](/docs/sign-in).

You should see: "Site frozen." The owner or an admin can freeze.

To undo it, click Unfreeze. Only the owner can unfreeze. You should see "Site unfrozen."

## Delete a site

Deleting closes the site. Its data and an export stay available for 30 days.

1. Open Settings, then Danger zone.
2. Under the delete text, type the site address shown in bold.
3. Click Delete site.
4. Confirm it's you if Hawl asks.

You should see: "Building an export before deleting the site." Then your account page opens. It says "Site deleted" with a Download its export link and the last day it works.

Only the owner can delete a site. If you recently changed your email or signed in by email code after losing a passkey, Hawl refuses to delete a site for 72 hours.

You must delete every site you own before you can delete your account. See [Your account, setups and data](/docs/account).

## Plan

The Plan tab shows your plan as Free, with meters for Members and Sites you own. It says paid plans come later. Nobody is charged and no card is asked for. See [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

## If it didn't work

- Buttons are grey: your role does not allow it. Ask the owner.
- The zip says it did not finish: click Prepare the zip again.
