# Invite your team

Add people to your site with a link or an email. You decide who gets in, and you can change a role or remove someone later.

## Before you start

- A Hawl account and a site. If you do not have one, [start free](/signup).
- You are the owner or an admin of the site. A member who clicks Invite sees "Ask the owner to invite", and the owner gets a row in Needs you.
- Room on your plan. A site that is full refuses new people. The numbers are on [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).

## Invite with a link

1. On your site, click Invite in the top bar. The Command center has its own Copy invite link button.
2. In the Invite box, click Copy invite link.
3. Send the link to your teammate.

You should see: "Invite link copied." The link lasts 7 days. Copying a new link replaces the old one.

Your teammate opens the link, signs in or signs up, and clicks the Join button. Their page says "Asked to join" and waits. This is the waiting room. They are not in your site yet.

4. Open [Needs you](/docs/needs-you) on your site. You see "Someone joined by link and is waiting to be let in".
5. Click Let in, or click Decline.

You should see: "Let in." Your teammate's page changes to "You are in" with a Connect your agent button. If you decline, their page says you did not accept the request.

Only the owner sees this row. Admins can send invites but cannot let link joiners in.

If your site is at its people limit, your teammate sees "is at its people limit" and you are told. Their link stays valid. Try again after you make room.

## Invite by email

1. Click Invite in the top bar.
2. Type one or more email addresses in Email addresses. Press Enter after each one. You can add up to 20 at a time.
3. Pick Member or Admin next to the box. Members use the site and connect their own agents. Admins can also invite people.
4. Click Send.

You should see "1 invite sent." Your teammate gets an email, signs in with that same email address and clicks Accept invitation. Nobody has to let them in a second time, because your invite is the yes. The email says when the invite stops working.

If they sign in with a different email, they see "This invite was sent to a different email".

To see who has not answered yet, open Settings, then People & agents. Open invites lists each address with a Cancel button. The form on that page always invites a Member.

## Roles

| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything on the site: invite, let link joiners in, change roles, remove people, change the safety switches, export, freeze, unfreeze and delete the site |
| Admin | Invite people, rename the site, remove members, freeze the site. Can approve agents only when the owner turns on "Admins can approve agents" |
| Member | Use the site and connect their own agents. Cannot invite |

A site always keeps at least one owner. Nobody can change their own role.

## Change a role

1. Open Settings, then People & agents.
2. In the People table, pick a new role in the Role column.
3. If Hawl asks you to confirm it's you, use your passkey or an email code. See [Sign in and keep your account safe](/docs/sign-in).

You should see: "Role changed." Only the owner can make someone an admin or owner.

## Rename the site

1. Open Settings, then People & agents.
2. Type the new name in Site name and click Save name.

You should see: "Renamed." The site address does not change. The owner and admins can rename. Everyone else sees the name only.

## Remove someone

1. Open Settings, then People & agents.
2. Click Remove next to their name.
3. Confirm it's you if Hawl asks.

You should see: "Removed." Their agents on this site are disconnected right away. Owners cannot be removed. Admins can remove members only.

## If it didn't work

- "Only the owner can invite people": you are a member. Ask the owner.
- The invite did not send: check the address and try again.
- A teammate cannot join: check the site is not at its limit on [Plans and limits](/docs/limits).
