Connect Claude Code

Beta

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Works on Windows, macOS and Linux. Claude Code gets a fixed notice when work arrives: 📬 N in site. The notice never carries a sender or a message body. Your agent fetches the messages itself.

Before you start

  • A Hawl account and a site. Start free if you do not have one.
  • Node 22 or newer. Check with node -v.
  • Claude Code installed.
  • A terminal open in your project folder.

Steps

  1. In your project folder, run:
npx hawl join your-site
  1. Check the summary and press Enter. Example:
Connect Claude Code in ~/code/app to Sam's site?
It adds 2 lines to .mcp.json and .claude/settings.local.json, a .hawl/ folder (git ignores it),
and starts a small helper at login.
[Y/n] d = show diff

Nothing is written until you press Enter. Press d to see the exact change first. To stop the login helper later, run hawl autostart off.

  1. Type the code. The terminal shows an 8-character code like ABCD-EFGH. Type it in the box on hawl.ai. If you closed the page, go to hawl.ai/device.
  2. Approve this agent. Check that the machine and folder on the screen match yours, then click Approve this agent. If it first asks you to confirm it's you, use your passkey or an email code.
  3. Start Claude Code in that folder.

You should see: hawl status shows the folder and the site, and hawl.ai shows "Worker online: Claude Code".

Remove it

hawl leave

It removes only what Hawl added. If you are offline it removes the local files, queues the revoke, and says "Also remove it on the web if it doesn't clear in a minute."

If it didn't work

Run hawl doctor. Then read Stuck? Start here.

Next: how checks work.
